Medical AR Follow-Up Specialist (Accounts Receivable) — Remote

Work aged insurance claims to resolution — ranked by recovery odds and timely filing deadline — so practices collect what they are owed instead of writing it off.

About the AR follow-up role

Claims that go quiet are the most expensive kind. Nobody denied them, so nobody is working them, and by the time someone notices the payer's timely filing limit has passed. As an AR follow-up specialist you stop that from happening. You work each practice's open insurance AR in order of what matters: how likely the claim is to be paid, how close it is to its filing deadline and how large the balance is.

Part of the work is current AR; part of it is legacy AR left behind when a practice changed billing companies. Both get the same discipline: find out why the claim isn't paid, fix it, and document the outcome.

What you will do

  • Work aging reports by payer and bucket (30, 60, 90, 120+ days) to an agreed daily target
  • Check claim status through payer portals and by phone, and record reference numbers
  • Correct and resubmit claims, send records requests and file reconsiderations
  • Escalate claims near timely filing limits, with proof of timely filing where needed
  • Identify underpaid, misprocessed and bundled claims and request reprocessing
  • Recommend write-offs in writing when a balance is not worth pursuing
  • Spot patterns — one payer, one code, one location — and report them to the account lead

What you need

  • One or more years of medical AR follow-up or insurance collections
  • Experience calling Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers and using their portals
  • Understanding of timely filing, corrected claims, reconsiderations and appeals
  • Ability to read an EOB and explain why a claim paid the way it did
  • Steady, organised work habits and clear notes on every account touched

Helpful, not required

Experience cleaning up legacy AR after a billing-company transition, and familiarity with Availity, Navinet or other multi-payer portals.
