About the dental billing role
Dental billing runs on a different code set (CDT), different claim forms and different payer habits from medical billing. Frequency limits, missing-tooth clauses, waiting periods and downgrades all decide what gets paid, and many claims need x-rays and narratives to go through. As a dental billing specialist you handle insurance billing end to end for dental offices.
What you will do
- Verify dental benefits, frequencies and limitations before treatment
- Submit dental claims with CDT codes, attachments, x-rays and narratives
- File pre-authorizations and pre-determinations for major treatment
- Post insurance payments and work downgrades and denials
- Follow up on aging dental claims and resubmit with additional information
- Cross-code medically necessary dental procedures to medical insurance where appropriate
What you need
- Two or more years of dental insurance billing
- Strong CDT coding knowledge and familiarity with ADA claim forms
- Experience with Open Dental, Dentrix, Eaglesoft or similar dental software
- Understanding of dental plan structures: PPO, DHMO, indemnity
